Szechuan Restaurant was established in March of 1991. We have been serving quality Chinese food to Bend and surrounding neighbors since 1986 with the first establishment called Monty's Wok located at the Riverhouse. Over the span of more than a decade, our name have changed, however our quality and cooking still remain the same.  We have served many thousands of satisfied customers, many of whom had moved away from the area and often found it difficult to find another Chinese Restaurant that can compare to Szechuan. The reasons are many. Here are some of them:

 

FRESHNESS: We cook fresh to order, practically every order. Even most of our soups are cooked to order. Food tastes the best when freshly cooked. That's why our food is so much better than those so-called buffet, express or pick-up places where their food could be sitting in steam tables for hours. 

 

QUALITY: We only use quality meats, vegetables and ingredients. Many Chinese restaurants use imported commercial grade meats that are usually unappetizing. They then use heavy spices, dark sauces and tenderizers to mask the inferiority of their meats. Often the customer only tastes the spice, but not the food. Not so at Szechuan. We want you to be able to taste the food, not just the spice. We do not use tenderizers.. What you taste is what you get at Szechuan. Our food is definitely lighter, leaner and healthier. 

 

HEALTHY COOKING METHOD: Did you know that 95% of Chinese restaurants DO NOT cook by STIR-FRYING? Despite all the credit given to stir-frying as being the most healthy method of cooking, most Chinese restaurants cook by DEEP frying. Meats and vegetables are first deep fried by soaking in oil (the same oil that fried many other customers' orders), and then a pre-made sauce is added to finalize the order. Not so at Szechuan. 

We use the healthier, old-fashioned method of stir-frying. We use very little oil (vegetable type). Meats and vegetables are cooked in its own natural juices and the sauce is made from the same juices that cook your food. The cooking medium is water, not oil, so your food is never greasy but deliciously more healthy. 

 

PERSONAL TOUCH: Being family owned all along, we take pride in preparing everything on the premises. We make our own egg rolls, our own pot stickers and our own Bar-B-Q sauces, etc. All these homemade items are favorites of many customers because they can taste the difference. 

There's more choice ingredients and more quality built into them. We don't put on your plate something that is made somewhere else in a warehouse or something that is purchased from a membership club freezer. In addition, many of our attentive employees have worked in this location for over 16 years. 

 

SERVICE: Service means cooking and serving our customers' orders the way they want them done, with courtesy and flexibility. Just being prompt and friendly is not good enough for us. We literally custom make orders to customers' satisfaction. 

 

VALUE: Over the years, our menu prices have been at the low end of the industry. Our portions are usually bigger than average. As of this printing, our menu pri ces have increased less than 2% a year for the 1990's. 

 

As you can see, Szechuan Restaurant is different from the pack in more ways than one. After all, decades of cooking experience in itself is a success!
